Hello all,
The first available cutover date for PrimoVE is Monday, Jan. 9, 2023.

On that day, the Ex Libris implementation team and System Office staff will test the live VE interfaces, and we need college staff to please help us test as well in order to be certain that all features function as expected for all 23 instances, specifically:

Do existing Quicksearch direct links redirect to VE?

Do all the menu links on the VE interface work?

Does login to Primo My Account work? Are any saved records still there? Please note that saved searches will not migrate from the current Primo to PrimoVE. Saved records, however, will be copied over.

Does basic and advanced search work as expected?

I'll share instructions for reporting problems at cutover as we get closer to the date.

Although our current Primo links will automatically redirect to Primo VE on January 9, colleges will need to do the following in the days after cutover, sometime before February 28, 2023:

Change to linking behavior in Primo

We've recently made changes to the default linking behavior in Primo that we wanted to let you know about. Previously, clicking on the "Full Text Available" or "View Online" links in Primo brief results would do one of two things:
1) Open the full record, which would then display the portfolio link(s) along with other available information about the record (the same happens when clicking on a record title)
2) Link directly to the resource in a new window.

There are Primo/Alma settings which control why these links do one or the other action, but I suspect that most users (myself included!) were either unaware or confused as to why the behavior differs among e-resources and when clicking the "View Online" link as opposed to the title.

A couple colleges recently submitted tickets asking to streamline this behavior, and we've had other questions in the past, so we've now simplified the default linking behavior in Primo such that all brief record links should should open the full result window (option 1) rather than opening in a new window from the brief results list (option 2). Hopefully users will appreciate the more predictable behavior, and also be more aware of additional access options.

Two colleges had previously customized direct linking and will not inherit this default change...I will follow up with them directly. After making this change, I spot-checked a number of Primo instances, but haven't made it through all 23. So if something seems off, please do put in a ticket to let me know, or feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Hello all,

When our index moved from the PCI to CDI, Ex Libris changed how AV material types were displaying in facets and pre-filters. Previously, there had been a combined "Audio Visual" material type facet which included media of both types, and in physical and streaming formats. With the move to CDI, streaming media coming through the index started showing up as separate "Audio" and "Videos" material types. Unfortunately, items cataloged in Alma remained "Audio Visual" in Primo, separate from CDI results. Thanks to Jacqueline Carrell at Piedmont for bringing this to our attention. Last week I updated the Primo normalization settings so that Alma material types match the CDI, and now we should be back at a more sensible grouping of "Audio" (both CDI and cataloged in Alma) and "Videos" (both CDI and cataloged in Alma).

This change will be most apparent in the facets list for material type. I have also updated the filters for Advanced Search for all 23 schools, and in the pre-filters list for the handful of schools that use them. I am only aware of two schools that had hardcoded prefilters on their library homepage, and have already communicated with them. If I missed something and you notice a stray "audio visual" somewhere in Primo or your site's code, please let me know and I will fix it or work with your site admin to update the code.

All -

Is there a master index? Kinda like SFX? I see that our SFX link is no longer working, and the Linc icon directs everyone back to Primo. That is great - for finding full text. But what I want is to ALSO find where something is actually indexed as well.

Is there such a thing for all of our VIVA / VCCS resources??

Primo only shows me when it has full text. But I would like a separate search (maybe just for staff?) that shows me all of our periodicals, located in all of our resources, even if it is not full text.

Thanks!
If we are using Chrome and do a search in Primo, then want to put the cursor somewhere in the search string, the cursor ends up a couple characters away from where we are trying to put it. For instance, say you were trying to search on 'virtual reference' but typed it 'viral reference.' When you try to put the cursor between the r and a in viral, it end up in the space instead. j

Hi all,

There was some interest in the Slack meeting today about the "Something broken? Report it" link that PVCC has on all of our e-resource records. I got the idea from VCU's interface, where they have a "Report a problem" link that pulls the metadata from the record and inputs it into a form where users can enter their contact info and report the issue. Emily gave me the idea to try this using Google Forms (since VCU's is built using PHP and Google Forms is out-of-the-box), and it worked! I got my first report this week from a student.

I've attached the instructions on how I did this, in case others are interested in doing something similar! Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, or if something doesn't make sense.
Thanks,
