"Colleagues,
VIVA’s Resource Sharing Committee has been exploring the topic of Open Education Resources (OER) and the role VIVA might play in supporting these. We have developed a brief survey to help us understand what VIVA’s members are doing regarding OER:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VIVA_OER
We hope you will take a few minutes to complete this survey. If you are not working directly with OER, please share the survey link with the person in you library who can best answer these questions.
The survey asks 10 questions:
OER ON YOUR CAMPUS
• Is your institution currently exploring or using Open Educational Resources?
o If yes, briefly describe any OER initiatives or projects on your campus
o Please share the names, titles, and email addresses of instructors and/or librarians at your institution who are actively involved in or planning an OER initiative.
o Is the library involved in these initiatives?
o If it is involved at all, please describe the role of your library in your institution’s use of OER.
THE ROLE OF LIBRARIES AND VIVA IN OER
• In general, do you think libraries should play a role in OER?
• Should VIVA play a role in OER in Virginia?
• How would you suggest VIVA support OER across Virginia?
GENERAL
• Is there anything else you would like to add about OER?
• Please add any comments or questions about OER or this survey.
We have also created a new list serve for VIVA librarians who want to continue discussion of OER in the Commonwealth’s academic library. To subscribe to VIVAOER-L, send your name and email address to viva@gmu.edu.
Please respond to the survey by April 8.
Thanks for helping us out with this important project!
