Summary of VIVA-level options to engage with open and affordable course materials
#1
As of Fall 2020, VIVA offers five distinct library-led options to support teaching and learning through use of open & affordable course materials:
  1. VIVA Open Repository
  2. OEN Workshops & Reviews Stipend (formerly OTN)
  3. Faculty Textbook Portal
  4. Open Adopt Grants (new in Fall 2020)
  5. Open Course Grants (formerly Course Redesign Grant)

VIVA Open Repository
  • OER adopted, adapted, and/or created by colleagues at VIVA institutions. Grant-funded work lives here.
  • Latest development: VIVA Open offers a VCCS Transfer Course Mapping Hub, a listing of OER selected and aligned specifically for VCCS transfer courses.
OEN Workshops & OER Reviewer Stipend (formerly OTN)
  • The OTN (Open Textbook Network) is changing the name to OEN, Open Education Network.
  • Current and aspiring campus leads should watch for another OEN workshop facilitator training this fall.
Faculty Textbook Portal Open Adopt Grants (new in Fall 2020)
  • $2,000 to instructors to support the time it takes to integrate existing open / affordable materials into a syllabus.
  • Next applications for VIVA Open Adopt Grants are due October 19, 2020.
Open Course Grants (formerly Course Redesign Grant)
  • $2,000 up to $30,000 to support individuals and teams in adopting, adapting, and creating open and affordable course content.
  • The next application cycle for VIVA Open Course Grants will begin in December 2020.
