Does anyone use Baker & Taylor to purchase DVDs and/or books? Historically, this is who CVCC has used. They apparently stopped selling academic books, but have re-entered that market. A note was left for me to consider using them again instead of YBP/GOBI. Just wanted insight from others. What's the discount like? Do they offer processing that suits your needs? Do you have contact info you can share? We have an open blanket order with them for DVDs, but I wasn't left with any contact information, a website for ordering, etc.

We used to use them before EBSCO acquired GOBI and then we switched. Our experience was that they were public library focused. They didn't keep as many academic titles in stock, at least in large quantities, so items were slower to ship or they weren't able to obtain them. Maybe things have changed? Good luck!

We don't use Baker & Taylor at Reynolds, but any discounts should be identified in the MALIA state contract:
http://malialibrary.org/baker-and-taylor/.
We have switched from Ingram to mainly GOBI for book purchases because:
1) Single source for print and e-books. Ingram doesn't carry e-books.
2) Discounted book prices are comparable to Ingram
3) MALIA state contract (both GOBI and Ingram)
4) Shipping is free with very small fuel surcharge; no minimum.
5) EBSCO account credits can be used to cover GOBI invoices.

Good to know. Thanks! Do you purchase DVDs? If so, who is your vendor?

Thank you! These are all great points. Do you all purchase DVDs? If so, who is your vendor?

Marci - you may want to check out Midwest Tape for DVDs. They're a MALIA vendor, and have a great range of DVDs (though we don't buy much anymore).

We still use Ingram for DVD purchases, or Jupiter Associates occasionally. They will do special orders for items Ingram doesn't carry. All three -- Ingram, Midwest, and Jupiter -- are on state contract with Malia.

Thank you, Mary. I'm cutting back on what has been allotted for DVDs greatly! I'm also focusing primarily on educational material rather than trying to compete with Amazon and Red Box. ;-)
