batch updating holdings records--help! - sbrowning - 05-03-2024

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is used that much, but I thought I would try to post a question here. Does anyone know the easiest way to batch change holdings records? We have locations in our holdings records and we are moving about 80 books to a new campus library. I understand how I can make a set and change item locations. But for holdings it seems to involve a normalization process? Which if I'm reading the Alma documentation correctly is very onerous!

Thank you for any advice here!

Hi Sommer, I don't have an answer to your question, but you might try reaching out or Beverly Hills at TCC. bhills@tcc.edu

Sommer, I sent this to you but I'll share here,

One of Alma's jobs is to change item information.  There is also a job to change holdings records.  You need to make a set of holdings records you want to change and the run the job.

ALMA>ADMIN>Run a job>Change holdings information.

Be sure when you are creating your set that it is a set of HOLDINGS records.  So search HOLDINGS records, apply your parameters, then when you have the results you want, save that query as a set.

I've just learned that ALMA>Fulfillment>Resource requests>Scan in Items>Change Item Information is one way to change the permanent location by setting up the change and then just scanning the items.  This may work for your situation.
