CSS of LibGuides - nmueller - 05-29-2024

Hi, Everyone!

I have found the HTML code of the various pages in LibGuides: Admin > Look & Feel > Page Layout > [list of pages]. Is there a way to access the CSS code of the pages as well?

I found the sample CSS code that Springshare posted on this page: https://training.springshare.com/friendly.php?s=libguides/sandbox. Here's an example of the CSS code from the sample:

/*styles box titles*/
.s-lib-box .s-lib-box-title {
background-color: #e8e8e8;
font-size: 24px;
font-weight: 700;
color: #28536B;
}

In this example, the CSS selector (I think that's the right word) is: ".s-lib-box .s-lib-box-title". My question is: how do you find out what all the selectors are for a given page?

Thanks!

For all things CSS with Libguides, I recommend two things.
1.  Use the INSPECT tool inside of Chrome to click on something and find out all the codes that are effecting that item.
2.  Post your really detailed CSS queries into the Springshare Lounge.  There are some REALLY expert people there that are super helpful.

As to your question, there are ways to target particular CSS selectors for guides, pages, and boxes.   But you need to know what they are first.   Use the Inspect tool to help.

I also recommend playing in a Sandbox of some kind and NOT on your actual live guides.   Smile

Hi, Jennifer,

Thank you for your quick reply. I will give both of your suggestions a try.

Thank you!

Nathan

Hi Nathan, Jennifer has given you some good suggestions. Chrome is also my preferred browser for CSS inspection. Also, if you have any other CSS or libguide customization questions, I'd be glad to meet with you. Our whole website is on libguides with some heavy customizations. You can really do just about anything with Libguides. https://libguides.tcc.edu/library

Thank you for your reply, Mary! I really like the TCC Libraries website. I saw some features that I would like to incorporate into the NOVA Libraries website. Once I come up with a plan, I'm going to discuss it with our Library Website Committee.
