Nominations requested - VIVA OTN System Leaders & supported attendance at OTNSI
#1
The 2019 Open Textbook Network Summer Institute and Summit (OTNSI) will be held in Minneapolis, July 22-July 26th. This year’s focus will be “The connection between open education and diversity, equity, and inclusivity.” Library staff trained at this OTN Summer Institute have the opportunity to serve as VIVA System Leaders for the statewide OTN program.

This year, VIVA will fund four individuals from member institutions to attend this intensive training. Below are the criteria, responsibilities, and opportunities for those that attend this institute. Current Campus Leader nominations are welcome, or any other individual you feel would excel in this role. Our VIVA System Leaders speak highly of the experience and are happy to share their thoughts if you or your nominee has any questions.

To Nominate: Please send a brief paragraph listing your nominee’s qualifications and alignment with this program to Anne Osterman aelguind@gmu.edu by February 25th.

Qualifications for System Leaders:
• Leader (or demonstrated interest) in teaching one or more scholarly communication topics (e.g., IR, OER, copyright, or Open Access) at their institution.  The nominee’s position should in some way align or overlap with open educational resources but is not limited to any specific library function or department.
• Strong interest in open education initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and implement outreach to faculty and/or librarians.
• Willingness to attend the annual fall VIVA Open and Affordable Forum as well as the OTN Summer Institute, July 22 - 26th.
• Nominee has demonstrated leadership/aptitude in organizing and collaborating regionally and/or nationally.
• Experience organizing and presenting training workshops.

Responsibilities of System Leaders:
• System Leaders will update the Best Practices Forum on OTNSI and/or share a written update to VIVA OTN Campus Leaders about the Institute.
• They must be willing to be tapped for regional training and presentation opportunities on the benefits of open educational resources.

Leadership opportunities for System Leaders:
• Only those trained as System Leaders are eligible to join the OTN Coordinating Group, which: coordinates support for the VIVA OTN program; identifies problems; encourages collaboration with OACCC; and identifies opportunities for further development of the  OTN program in Virginia.

Sincerely,
Genya
