That's odd, it's the Infobase Support site. tc

Is this tool available in Canvas now? I have a sandbox course but couldn't find it. FOD help says it should be found "using the On Demand button found inside Canvas" but Canvas Help comes up empty when you search for "on demand."

Yes, FOD and Gale resource LTIs are available now. Our LTIs can be used as an item anywhere in a course (assignments, discussions, syllabus, etc.) and are always found on the Items - External Tools menu.

To add a library resource via LTI 'external tool' to a Module:
  1. Add New Module to your Canvas course
  2. Within the module you just created, add a New Item and select Add - External Tool from the dropdown
  3. Choose FOD from the list
  4. Search for the video you want
  5. Choose an embed option from the selected FOD video result
  6. Choose Add item
  7. The selected video will appear in the Canvas module.

Thanks - the FOD help page is outdated.

The FOD works great, but I've played around with the different Gale tools and they seem to lack functionality. Unless I'm missing something (very possible) the tools seem to only embed a link to the launch page of whichever database (Science in Context, Opposing Viewpoints, etc.). In other words, unlike the FOD tool, they don't allow you to choose the content WITHIN the database that you want to embed or link to.

You can always add a link to something specific from one of the databases as an external url, but then why have the tool in the first place?

Someone please enlighten me! Thanks.

LTI resources also appear in the toolset for generating assignments, discussions, and quizzes. Once opened, the instructor can select an article to be linked or embedded within Canvas using either the  Link or Embed document buttons.

A: Subscription content added to Canvas via LTI tools never prompts students to login.

OK - thanks. That was helpful.

Still, I'm wondering why if you use the Gale LTI tools in the Canvas "Modules" section, where I created a sample reading list for example, you don't have the same functionality. (You only get that top landing page for the Gale databases.) The FOD tool works the same whether in Modules or in Assignments, but the Gale tools do not. Is that by design, or could there be some configuration piece that can be tweaked?
