Dear Colleagues -

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, many VIVA institutions have moved to remote and online learning for the safety of their students and staff.   The VIVA Resource Sharing Committee recommends the following best practices during this time for all VIVA Library Interlibrary Loan Departments:
  • Understand that returns and borrows will be disrupted during this period.
  • Where possible, automatically renew any items that are due.
  • Forgive interlibrary loan late fees that accrue to VIVA institutions during this time.
Sincerely,
Genya

— on behalf of the VIVA Resource Sharing Committee

"Due to health concerns and the changing operating status of our member campuses, the VIVA Resource Sharing Committee is asking our members to immediately cease shipments of all physical materials between libraries.  Based on the information currently available, it is recommended that any incoming materials be left untouched for a minimum of 48 hours.

FOCUS ON E-DELIVERY:  Please prioritize requests to scan/e-deliver ILL materials, including scanning multiple book chapters for items that had previously been requested for physical delivery.

UPDATE YOUR STATUS:  If your campus is closed/closing, please be sure to update your library’s status in OCLC so e-requests can be routed appropriately.

Please send any questions to viva@gmu.edu, and thank you.

-Anne.
