O'Reilly for Higher Education
#1
In her 7/26 announcement about O'Reilly for Higher Education, Anne Osterman said (highlighting mine)

This product has a different authentication approach than any other VIVA product, as it is a personalized experience for the user.  I have already requested transition checklists from participating schools so that O’Reilly can work with them to establish locally-appropriate authentication methods.  The conversation with O’Reilly will also include the walk-in user approach preferred by each institution.

I assume that the VCCS as a whole is considered a "participating school' and that this will be handled by Emily, but, since I haven't heard anything, I thought I'd double check on it here.

So, Tara and Emily, can you verify that this isn't something each school has to worry about and you will just provide the necessary information for authentication when you have it? thanks. j

There was something about this in the VIVA listserv this morning - we have instructors who use Safari books in their classes, and would like to get the transition functional before classes start.

Here is the info from Anne's announcement this am:

Here is additional information about the transition to O’Reilly for Higher Education:

CONTENT: O’Reilly cannot provide a list of the books that are in the original system but not in the new system, but they have moved over the vast majority of their content. If you find specific titles that are not in the new platform, they are happy to have the content team take a look and see if they can be brought over. (VIVA Central will try to create a report of any lost content and get that information out to you all.)

WEBINARS: O’Reilly will host two webinars for VIVA about the new platform:
• Monday, August 12th, 2-3 pm: https://meet.google.com/_meet/nfb-wyvk-seq or dial: +1 234-719-4233 PIN: 541228123#
• Friday, August 16th, 11:30 am-12:30 pm: https://meet.google.com/_meet/nfb-wyvk-seq or dial: +1 478-331-6233 PIN: 835376550#

DISCOVERY: When your school is ready to transition, please deselect the Safari knowledge base collection and select the new O’Reilly for Higher Education. The name of the collection depends on which discovery vendor is used, and some knowledge bases have versions specific to EZProxy set ups. The general names are:
• Safari O’Reilly Learning Platform: Academic Edition (OCLC Worldshare, Summon 360, Summon, EBSCO)
• O’Reilly for Higher Education (Alma, SFX, Primo)

MARC RECORDS: Here is the link: https://learning.oreilly.com/marc/. Choose Academic Customer, Updated Records and no date to get a full file.

TRANSITION: Safari is still active for VIVA so that schools can make the transition to the new platform, and it will be available through December 31st. Please let me know if you cannot make the transition by November 1st.

Hello all, I believe several if not all of the colleges received confusing technical account information this week from O’Reilly Technical Support regarding the new VIVA Safari eBooks subscription. Please disregard the communication from O'Reilly for the time being. VIVA Central is working to get to the bottom of this and I will keep you updated as information becomes available.

Thanks for your patience,
Tara

Tara:

I assume the SO will be handling the setup for all VCCS institutions and will provide us an update once you know what is going on. Can you verify that?

We haven't received anything from O'Reilly Technical. We're just confused about the information that Anne sent out and whether we individual colleges need to do anything or if it's being handled by you and Emily.

Correct, I have indicated on the VIVA Central transition checklist for O'Reilly that the System Office will continue to manage access to this product on behalf of all VCCS colleges.
