MECC Draft Recommendations
#1
DRAFT Library-proposed recommendations for continued operations of MECC Wampler Library, shared with permission of Mike Gilley, May 2020:

Phase I – all library staff continue to work from home according to individual work agreements, alternating working in Wampler Library on Wednesdays from 10 AM – 2 PM to:
·        collect and sort the library mail;
·        open and empty the book drop to check books back in and place on tables to decontaminate for two weeks any  returned books;
·        empty the audiovisual and calculator return to check items back in, wipe down with disinfectant wipe, and return to shelves / drawers;
·        do any additional work they need to do while in the library with access to their work PC, printers, and copiers; and
·        Kody Whitt and Michael Gilley create an trouble-shooting guide for students, faculty, and staffwith the use of electronic resources and services.

Phase II – If the college reopens to any degree, at-risk library staff (two full-time) will continue to work from home – alternating coming to campus on Fridays to continue the work that they can reducing their in-person contact with faculty, staff, and students, while the other library staff (two part-time) will work at the library on a reduced operational schedule (Monday – Thursday, with hours TBD, based upon when students will be on campus), alternating days to have the library open for students, faculty, and staff only.  The following will be services and materials provided during phase II:
·        No access for the community patrons who can be served by local public libraries.  Genealogy patrons will be served through email with more limited research assistance.
·        The number of students/faculty/staff in the library at one time will be limited to a total group of ten people.
·        Computers are already spaced for social distancing.
·        Chairs at tables will be removed so they will also provide social distancing.
·        We have a limited supply of masks, gloves, and disinfectant wipes, which may need replenishing on a regular   basis.
·        We will continue the processes in Phase I, expanding the mail pick-up to each day the library is open and   observing the same processes for material return and decontamination.
·        We will continue to rely on online resources, circulating physical materials only when online resources are  not   available and students will have access to PCs, copier, and printers.

Please note that book stacks will need to be blocked from access and covered with plastic so they are not affected from the disinfectant fogging of the library.  See https://americanlibrariesmagazine.org/blogs/the-scoop/how-to-sanitize-collections-covid-19/

Phase III – The college returns to somewhat normal operation, all library employees will return to campus and resume all library operations again with reduced operations and schedule.  We recommend the same guidelines as outlined in Phase II with the exception that all four library staff will return to campus and work Monday through Thursdays, working from home on Fridays.

Phase IV - Return to normal - Wampler Library will restore previous operating hours, staff schedules, resources, and services.
