Yesterday, I had a question from a student at NOVA regarding a database I did not have access to: Lexis Nexis. They were looking for full text for a specific resource, American Jurisprudence. I was able to call NOVA (thank you for the excellent service Anne Anderson) to get the question answered and relayed it for the inquiry. I seem to recall a post once that offered a way around so we could access all databases but I can't remember specifically, from Jacque maybe (Queen of Access). In addition, I was off campus. What do other folks do if they get an inquiry for a resource you do not have and want to provide detailed info.
Thanks,
Cherie

I have set up an alternative login for every college so that the 24/7 coop librarians can actually access the databases for each college. It is part of the Policy page that is set up for every school and available to you from the Chat Monitor when working with a patron.
The problem with this alternative access is that it will only work if you are off campus, so it is usually of no help to the VCCS librarians. On campus, IP address trumps the alternative login.
The Policy page also has lots of other great info and direct links to info about that college's library. If you haven't used it before, take a look. When you are in a session, click on the word Policies to the right above the patron info box.
I was going to attached a screen print of the chat monitor and the policy page but I don't seem to have to option for attachments to this post! j
