Feedback needed: OER and students, faculty
#1
VCCS colleagues-

VIVA needs your help! VIVA is seeking feedback from students and faculty about the positive impact of OER. This will become part of a larger pro-OER push at the General Assembly this spring.

Please share any quotes from faculty or students at your institutions. We want the public and our lawmakers understand the importance of OER to our students and colleges.

Send via email to ssherry@reynolds.edu or by replying to this thread.

Thank you in advance-

Hi Suzanne!

Please feel free to pull from TCC's "Textbook-free degree" webpage, which includes quotes and videos. https://www.tcc.edu/academics/degrees/textbook-free

We also have a video with some faculty speaking about library OER assistance specifically at https://youtu.be/zULpKRMLlPs.

Thank you for gathering this information.

Just wondering: What is the VIVA trying to convince the GA to do/fund? More faculty stipends for OER? Just a general allotment of monies to go to VIVA?

Hi Suzanne,

Take a look at the Course Materal Affordability Reports at the InfoGuide below. There is one for spring 2017 and fall 2017 located in a box on the right-hand side. I do one each semester. It gives a comprehensive look at OER use on our campus and savings estimates by semester.

Good question!

Anne Osterman said there was a lot of interest from legislators in OER once they saw the success data from the OTN initiative. I'm not completely sure what the budget requests are earmarked for, but VIVA resources are essential for our colleges.
