Overdrive Audio Wishlist - 2019
#1
Hello, all,
It has been several years since we added any audiobooks to the Overdrive collection. Assuming I can find some money this spring, I'd like to make a purchase for the system. Please share any requests/wants/recommendations before Friday, March1.

Oh yeah, we've been trying to get an Overdrive order together for a while now (and keep getting thwarted by budget issues).  Should we start another cart at overdrive, or send you a spreadsheet?

Hi, Susan,
Feel free to start a cart; all others are welcome to send a spreadsheet or just respond to this post. Thanks!

Has anyone suggested looking into the current crop of streaming audio book vendors? I see less and less Overdrive available through the public libraries and have been wondering if one of the other services might have a model that would work for the VCCS. Perhaps the Shared Collections Committee could look into this for future fiscal years? j

soooo, I combined the list we had started a year ago (when we thought we had money) and updated with various new titles, Audie winners, new series' titles, and the like, and made all of this into a cart on OD.  We may have gone a little overboard.  Let me know if you want me to trim it down.

This might be pertinent to the discussion about other audiobook services:

While we're on the subject on Overdrive, I just discovered that OD has a new app, "Libby"  which is much more user friendly than the old OD app.  This might be old news, I just stumbled across it while checking out an audiobook from my local public library.

Just wondering - is the SO going to be able to place an Overdrive order?

I'm going to put in a ticket about this, too, but I cannot find any Overdrive titles in Primo. I think I have found them in Alma as there are 1,135 items in the NZ with a Resource Type of Audio nonmusical - Electronic. All the titles I spot checked were from Overdrive and set to suppress from publishing.

?????

I just looked in the NZ and found a collection "Overdrive Digital Media"  but it only has six portfolios in it.  And those six are videos, not audiobooks, and they're not showing up in Primo.

Beverly H. stumbled across one title in the NZ, Cormac McCarthy's All the Pretty Horses, but I couldn't find a way to search to find more. Eventually I decided to search on the Resource type for that one item--Audio nonmusical - Electronic. There were 1,135 of those. I spot checked about 5 of them and those 5 were all Overdrive and none were accessible in Primo. The bib records for these were all set to Yes for 'Suppress from Publishing.' Also, I'm pretty sure Tara did a new order because I just listened to Educated by Tara Westover and that is a really recent book. It was not one of the 1,135 items so I am assuming that what I found were all of the records from Aleph Global. I put in a ticket to see what can be done to make all our Overdrive titles discoverable in Primo. Since it is a VCCS wide resource, I am assuming that Tara and Emily have to handle it. ??

BTW, each title portfolio was set as available to VCCS ALL.

I am in the process of creating a shared Overdrive Alma electronic collection that will be managed via NZ and discoverable in Primo. Please do not activate locally from the CZ. Correct, there are a number of new titles that will be added to the NZ collection. Thanks for your patience as we develop a new workflow for Overdrive management.

This is probably a stupid question, but what the heck - it won't be my first. Can we order an individual title in Overdrive or does the systems office have to place the orders? If we can, is there some procedure for ensuring that it becomes a shared VCCS title? Do we just contact them and ask for an account?

From their Marketplace website:
If you don't have a username, please contact your OverDrive Marketplace administrator and ask them to create an account for you. Interested in learning more about OverDrive? Visit us at company.overdrive.com

(We've never ordered anything but there's a new title with local interest that available as an Overdrive ebook.)

Thanks.

Hi David,
I just activated your Overdrive Markeplace access, you should see an email with details today. VCCS Overdrive is audio and some video, not ebooks. Our Overdrive site is not designed for ebooks through this vendor.

Colleges are welcome to request and/or fund new A/V titles; purchases made by a college become available system wide by default. When you have selected titles in Overdrive Marketplace and are ready to make a purchase, just send me an email so we can get the billing done correctly. Thanks!

Thanks Tara.  This title is only available as an ebook, so we probably won't be purchasing it then.
