Since it came up in our strategic planning Zoom, I'm wondering if any other libraries are already using Navigate and if so, how? Is there interest in having a discussion about Navigate implementation in the libraries?
I'm one of VWCC's 2 Navigate administrators. I initially set up a Care Unit for tutoring that expanded to include academic coaching and library research appointments because of the pandemic and campus closure. I also created quick polls to gauge students' technology access and needs, and we've used appointment campaigns and early alerts to nudge students to make research appointments. Now, I am creating a kiosk mode in Navigate to track library and computer lab visits for contact-tracing.

I (and the library as a whole) haven't been included in any of the discussions or training around Navigate. I'm interested in hearing about how others might be using it as another touchpoint for students.

At TCC the COVID instructions said the library was going to use Navigate, but we had never been giving access or training. Steve's been working on it, but we still don't have access. (just tried to to double check that we hadn't been given access and not been told about it!)

Tara, I think a meeting would be a great thing. If you don't mind setting it up, I'm happy to participate. It may be worth seeing if you all are able to register for the EAB virtual conference being held December 8-10. Our college had something like 19 slots allotted, and I'm guessing the other VCCS schools may have spaces left too. There are some programs on the agenda focused on support services (not just advising)

We haven't used it specifically in the library, but tutoring uses it a bit. Below is what my colleague, Eve Walker, wrote.
We had looked at moving to Navigate as our scheduling platform. However, it would mean using Zoom as the platform for the actual sessions. We decided to stick with Brainfuse as scheduling and the sessions are all located within the one platform. Brainfuse added video and screen sharing a few months ago. Brainfuse also has a better whiteboard and better equation editing - we see a lot of math!
We have been using Navigate for tutoring early alerts though, and that's been working well. If a professor flags a student in need of tutoring, I can reach out to them directly by phone/email and get them set up with a tutor pretty quickly.
I'd still like to consider Navigate for scheduling in-person Peer tutoring when we return to campus. It would be a replacement for WCONLINE. It doesn't have exactly the same features, but I do think it could be a good move when the time is right.

College Context for Navigate
"Navigate started with a focus on advising. All the colleges have at minimum an advising care unit. Now that Navigate has been implemented for a few years, colleges are expanding their care units to financial aid/business office, testing center, tutoring/learning resources, faculty office hours. College buy-in to adding a library care unit or service will likely depend on their vision and strategy for expanding their use of Navigate.
Each college has their own Navigate site and strategy. The college strategies and needs will determine whether or not colleges will decide to use Navigate for the Library. Colleges may determine whether they would set up a Library "Care Unit" A care until allows for services such as appointment scheduling or proactive outreach campaigns (text, emails, appointments). Some colleges may include libraries in their learning resource care unit where they may include library, tutoring, testing center, and loaner laptop programs as services.
[If this is something your library will pursue,] training can be arranged by your college Navigate lead... There is also a help center site within Navigate that allows users to look up how to use certain functions."
