You're welcome! I should have specified that this collection lives in two places:
  1. ProQuest main platform
  2. Alexander St Press video platform (along with American History in Video)
Since users may prefer the current filter/browse options on ASP, feel free to link that as well.

Academic Video Online Premium (ProQuest platform)

Academic Video Online Premium (Alexander Street Press platform)

Lastly, since this is such a large collection, and the browsing tools on both platforms feel unwieldy at the moment, you might find the Editor’s Picks helpful. tc

Below is the email update I shared with my SO division this week. This message was very exciting and was likely forwarded to college (financial aid, distance ed, student services, etc.) contacts outside of the library, so I wanted to make sure you all see it as well.

Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to share that an exciting new streaming video collection is now available through the VCCS online library.

Academic Video Online Premium

“Academic Video Online is the most comprehensive streaming video subscription available to libraries. It offers over 70,000 titles spanning the widest range of subject areas including anthropology, business, counseling, film, health, history, and music. Included are news programs, training, lectures, interviews, documentaries, ethnographies, performances, and feature and short films. Browse Academy®, Emmy®, and Peabody®-winning films, video from PBS, BBC, 60 MINUTES, National Geographic, Annenberg Learner, BroadwayHD™, A+E Networks’ HISTORY®, and more.”

Highlights
  • Over 2,000 videos to support student success in areas such as stress management, college life, communication, and success in math
  • Accessibility features including on-demand audio described video, onscreen captions, and scrolling/searchable transcripts
  • Limited public performance rights as long as no admission is charged (exception: FILM PLATFORM documentaries).
These videos should appear in college library catalog search results within the next week, and I am investigating available Canvas course-level integration methods. Access to this collection is courtesy of VIVA, the Virtual Library of Virginia. Thanks to CARES Act Coronavirus Relief Funds provided by the Governor for streaming media content to support online and remote education, VIVA subscribed to the Academic Video Online collection in December 2020. Additional streaming video acquisitions made possible by Coronavirus Relief Funds will be finalized and announced over the next few weeks.

Tara: Will you automatically remove IZ AVON activation for those of us that already have AVON or do we need to do it ourselves?

VIVA Central advised that NVCC was the only college with an existing AVON subscription. Is that incorrect?

If you already have AVON locally, please email me the dates of the TCC subscription so we can get funding sorted through VIVA. As for IZ deactivation, I can do it if you prefer not to, just let me know your preference.

I had two faculty ask how long we will have this collection (since it was CARES Act funded I guess). What is the length of the contract?

Good question from LFCC Faculty. The AVON contract is an initial one year, but I do believe it will become a standing VIVA product. VIVA Central recognizes the need for streaming media resources as a reliable part of the VIVA core collection.

TCC has AVON. We go through Lyrasis, so maybe that is why VIVA Central didn't know about us?

That makes sense, perhaps since this is the case TCC needs to alert LYRASIS. Is your LYRASIS access through Alexander SP?

Lyrasis members have access to a long list of resources at a discounted price. The actual access is through the regular vendor, but the billing goes through Lyrasis. TCC has about a half dozen subscriptions we pay for through Lyrasis.

I've already contacted ProQuest/ASP about the VIVA subscription and was told they were already working with Lyrasis to process a refund for the remainder of our subscription (since our subscription ends on 6/30/21).

What's the status on activating the AVON collection in the Network Zone?  I see a collection listed, but it only has 348 portfolios attached, and when I click on them, I get an error message.  The title of the collection I'm clicking on is "Academic Video Online: Premium - United States."  Is that the right one?

No, I think that was part of a test.

The full collection is active via CDI, ex:
